Have You Scrobbled Today?

Think what you will about the iphone, but it gets more developer love and attention than any other mobile phone on the market.  And MobileScrobbler, the  latest addition to the third party dev is no exception.

I'm not a huge Last.fm fan, but this latest iPhone addition is a great oppurtunity for me to change all that nonsense.

Last.fm provides you a chance to listen to artists you might want to try out, as well as your favorite bands and the oppurtunity to listen to similar artists along your merry audible way.

The "Scrobbling" aspect, you sending your preference information, playlist choices, likes & dislikes etc., back to Last.fm, permits the compiling of a musical database customized to your personal preferences. Ultimately, you have the ability to manage and enjoy your own personal internet radio station.

Now for clarity sake, You don't need an iPhone to enjoy the benefits of last.fm. Your perfectly capable of navigating to the site with an internet connection and most any web browser. But, having a stable iPhone application like MobileScobbler, with all the bells and whistles of the GUI experience, and  to have it on the go.... Well, that's how we all should roll.

Holy Trinity: SendFile, Safari Web PlugIn, & Net Services

Thanks to Erica Sudan's recent update to her awesome iPhone application SendFile, it is now a force to be reckoned with, and the perfect companion to the most excellent hacker Hachu's  MobileSafari plugin version 0.2.

Both applications, in my opinion, are the absolute best in show of genius and ingueniuity in the world of iphone hackery and application development.

Having employed both with much success, I also stumbled onto a excellent companion, the piece de resistance for the  safari web plug in....  Enter the  NetServices app.  , a versatile iPhone preferences utility that gives you control over network and computer sharing services.

In short, NetServices will enable you to toggle the safari web plugin on and off. Toggling on; gives you the ability to get in front of the quicktime plug in, thereby allowing the downloading of files via the safari web plugin. While toggling off allows the quicktime plug in to playback the files as it was intended.

Adding CopyCoders as a source to the installer on the iphone is an easy way to download and install the NetServices app. And with one simple mod to the web plugin info.plist, the Netservices app will toggle the plugin for download or for playback of files per request.

The edit is simply creating two plist files from the original plist installed with the web plugin. First, head into the shell of your phone and copy the web plugin info.plist into the editor of your choice. Next create two copies, one called enable.plist and a second called disable.plist. For the enable.plist you will have to edit the audio/mpeg and audio/mpeg3 sections of code from  "false" to "true."  The disable.plist will require the "false" in both the audio/mpeg and the the audio/mpeg3 sections of code. Now, back in the shell of your phone add the enable.plist and disable.plist to your web plugin folder.  At the end of this process you should have a grand total of three plists in web plugin folder. (info.plist, enable & disable.plist)  Reboot your phone.

That's it, your done!  Now you can Toggle the 0.2 MobileSafari plugin via NetServices, then download some files via safari, and Thanks to Erica Sudan, SendFile to playback or share with the world. Cheers to collaboration!

2007 The Year of The Switcher

This has been quite an exciting and unexpected year for me.  2007 has been the year of developing Mad Mac computer skills.

The Journey began around late May. After years of PC disappointment and sheer frustration, my significant other and I switched from PC to Mac. Needless to say, We have never looked back.

Instead, partnered with my 13" MacBook and 8 GB iPhone, I have run buck wyld in the endless networks and resources of support, forums, software, hardware, & knowledge bases. These have been truly exciting times, and yes, with 2008 just around the corner, the best is yet to come.

Big up and mad props to good friends Dennis & Brady for the push, the great advice, and the invaluable technical support.

'Tis the Season....

FAO Schwartz, The Apple Store, Crate & Barrel, and Hammacher Schlemmer.....
What do all these places have in common?
(Besides being the end of my financial independence?)

They are the last of the checklist. A veritable treasure trove of holiday consumer schwag.
The final chapter in this mans epic journey to win the hearts and minds of family and loved ones on Christmas morning.

'Tis the season to be overcrowded, out of stock, and overpriced at any given location, at any given time.

Yes, the stakes are high, and the journey is long......
But to the victor go the spoils.

May the Holiday spirits be with you!
