Thanks to Erica Sudan's recent update to her awesome iPhone application SendFile, it is now a force to be reckoned with, and the perfect companion to the most excellent hacker Hachu's MobileSafari plugin version 0.2.
Both applications, in my opinion, are the absolute best in show of genius and ingueniuity in the world of iphone hackery and application development.
Having employed both with much success, I also stumbled onto a excellent companion, the piece de resistance for the safari web plug in.... Enter the NetServices app. , a versatile iPhone preferences utility that gives you control over network and computer sharing services.
In short, NetServices will enable you to toggle the safari web plugin on and off. Toggling on; gives you the ability to get in front of the quicktime plug in, thereby allowing the downloading of files via the safari web plugin. While toggling off allows the quicktime plug in to playback the files as it was intended.
Adding CopyCoders as a source to the installer on the iphone is an easy way to download and install the NetServices app. And with one simple mod to the web plugin info.plist, the Netservices app will toggle the plugin for download or for playback of files per request.
The edit is simply creating two plist files from the original plist installed with the web plugin. First, head into the shell of your phone and copy the web plugin info.plist into the editor of your choice. Next create two copies, one called enable.plist and a second called disable.plist. For the enable.plist you will have to edit the audio/mpeg and audio/mpeg3 sections of code from "false" to "true." The disable.plist will require the "false" in both the audio/mpeg and the the audio/mpeg3 sections of code. Now, back in the shell of your phone add the enable.plist and disable.plist to your web plugin folder. At the end of this process you should have a grand total of three plists in web plugin folder. (info.plist, enable & disable.plist) Reboot your phone.
That's it, your done! Now you can Toggle the 0.2 MobileSafari plugin via NetServices, then download some files via safari, and Thanks to Erica Sudan, SendFile to playback or share with the world. Cheers to collaboration!
